Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with Xiaomi to launch Poco F7 Ultra globally

Xiaomi is preparing to launch the Poco F7 Ultra globally, marking its first “Ultra” variant within the Poco series. This smartphone is expected to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, offering advanced performance enhancements, likely aimed at high-end gaming and heavy multitasking. The device’s specifications are anticipated to align with the Redmi K80, suggesting features like a high-resolution OLED display, substantial battery capacity (around 6500 mAh), and an IP68 or potentially higher water and dust resistance rating.

New evidence has revealed Xiaomi’s plans to release a flagship Poco smartphone globally. Surprisingly, the device is the Poco F7 Ultra, which is reputed to be the international version of the Redmi K80 Pro.

The Poco F7 Ultra appears in line with Xiaomi’s strategy of expanding its flagship lineup with performance-focused, feature-rich devices, especially as competitors like Asus, OnePlus, and Realme also release models powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The F7 Ultra’s global release reflects Xiaomi’s push to position it as a premium competitor internationally, especially against flagship releases slated for early 2025

Earlier this week, Xiaomi confirmed that it would be one of the first Android OEMs to release a Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered smartphone. For context, while it outlined that Qualcomm’s latest chipset would underpin the Xiaomi 15, it is also expected to feature inside the Xiaomi 15 Pro and Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

Moreover, the Redmi K80 Pro is a likely candidate for the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Based on recent Redmi K series releases, the Redmi K80 Pro will likely land in late November or December 2024. Although the Redmi K80 Pro may be another Chinese exclusive, it seems that Xiaomi is developing a global alternative that could debut under its Poco sub-brand, which remains stylised as POCO.

Specifically, new IMEI database results suggest that Xiaomi is working towards delivering the Poco F7 Ultra as a global alternative to the Redmi K80 Pro. Unfortunately, it remains unknown when the Poco F7 Ultra will be available. However, a spring 2025 global launch seems likely given previous Poco F series release cycles, including this year’s Poco F6 Pro (curr. $469.99 on Amazon).
