Google’s Pixel 7a to Support Face Unlock – An Affordable Innovation or Marketing Gimmick?

Google is all set to introduce face unlock to its affordable phones with the launch of the upcoming Pixel 7a. This latest leak indicates that users will be able to unlock the Google’s Upcoming smartphone using Face Unlock, a feature that was initially introduced on the Pixel 4 series but was missing in the following year’s models. However, it made a comeback with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The company is expected to launch the Pixel 7a in May 2023 during its annual developer conference, Google I/O.

Until now, Google’s A-Series Pixel phones have only featured fingerprint sensors in addition to Pattern or PIN unlock options. However, the latest images of the Pixel 7a shared by leaker SnoopyTech indicate that the phone will have an option for “Face & Fingerprint Unlock.” Face unlock on the Pixel 7a is expected to function similarly to the way it does on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.

What to Expect from the Pixel 7a

The Pixel 7a is expected to be priced at Rs. 40,000 and will feature a 6.1-inch FHD+ AMOLED Display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The phone will be powered by Tensor G2 and will run on Android 13. It will come equipped with a 64MP Sony IMX787 OIS, a 12MP Ultra Wide camera lens, and a 10.8 MP selfie camera. The Pixel 7a will also feature a 4500mAh battery and 5W wireless charging support.

The phone is expected to take inspiration from the Pixel 7 design, with a full metal camera frame with cutouts for a dual camera setup at the back. However, it is unclear if there will be any changes to the material used as part of cost-cutting measures.
