Sony’s upcoming earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM5, are reportedly set to have a more compact design and improved internals. Leaked images from The Walkman Blog showcase the new buds as having a smaller, more curved shape compared to its predecessor. This updated design should help the buds fit more snugly in users’ ears.
The earbuds are also expected to feature a touch panel for controlling audio playback, which is integrated with the Bluetooth antenna. Other standard features, including USB-C and wireless charging, active noise cancelling (ANC), Ambient Sound Control, DSEE Extreme, and 360 Reality Audio, are likely to carry over from the previous model.
While there’s no word on Qualcomm aptX Lossless support, it’s possible that the WF-1000XM5 will continue to use Sony’s LDAC codec. The earbuds’ case has also been updated, with Sony switching from three contact points to two for charging. The case has a rounder shape and a smaller LED indicator on the front, and the power specification has been updated to suggest a larger battery capacity or shorter charging time.
Overall, the leaked images and information suggest that the WF-1000XM5 will offer a more comfortable fit, better touch controls, and similar features to its predecessor. While we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to confirm these details, the leaks have certainly piqued our interest in Sony’s upcoming earbuds.
